first we connected both computers to a router and turned it on.

 then we went into the router settings by typing the default IP of the router into internet explorer's URL bar this put is to the router settings from there we hid the SSID by clicking the button in the wireless settings then we saved it by clicking apply settings then we put a password on the router by going into security settings and typing in the default password on the back of the router and changing it to something we could remember. also while we were in settings we reduced the lease time to only 30 minutes so people coming in and out of the network will have to reconnect if they want to stay on for longer then we rebooted the router to save the settings and while it was turning on we went on both computers network settings and changed the IP address configuration so that when its connected to the router it will find an IP address without us having to manually type one in.

first we connected both PC's together using a crossover cable. once both computers were logged on and set up we went into the network settings and gave each device its own IP address

this was the IP address we gave the first computer and because they have to be different this is the IP address we gave the other computer

once each of the computers had its own IP address we tried 'pinging' the other 

the first time we did this it failed because we forgot to turn the firewall off so after we turned the firewall off we 'pinged' again and it worked

then we made a sharing file on each computer with a document inside we then gave that file permissions to be seen by everyone on that network and then when we went in network files the file we shared was there

with the file saved inside
